Whaley Water Weekend, W3 2011, ended on Sunday night
(12 June) with visitors and committee smiling in the rain, after 'an outstanding success'. Nearly 1,100 people took free trips on five canal boats - almost as many as in 2010 when W3 took place in a heatwave.
Chairman Barry Rudd said: "The rain on Sunday didn't
dampen the enthusiasm. I'm proud of all the team -
they worked very hard."
Three attractions introduced this year were all successful:
* the Acoustic Fest which opened the weekend on Friday
* the Saturday rock night on the canalside stage
* the BMX demonstration by local 12-16 year olds.
There were many more stalls this year, adding to the fun atmosphere. Stage acts ranged from oompah music to jazz. As if there wasn't enough water, Buxton Water sent a large supply of bottles, enjoyed free by the crowd estimated at nearly 2,000. And Whaleyburgers, made from locally sourced beef were voted a hit, and added to income which will ensure a Water Weekend in 2012.
